The guys are back in the saddle to continue the CenterPoint Podcast! Coming up with excuses, Lowell and Billy try to explain why they did or didn’t make their goal weight of 190 lbs. In making excuses, we try to justify why we don’t accomplish something. As we think about God’s Word, we find many people try to excuse themselves from reading the Old Testament. The guys begin a series where they unpack the Old Testament.
The Old Testament is the foundation of our Faith
I. The Old Testament was Jesus’ only Scripture and makes up ¾ of our Bible.
a. II Timothy 3:15-17 “…and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
b. Luke 24:27 “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”
II. Without the Old Testament, we would not know God the Father, or that Jesus IS the Christ!
a. We see the same God in both Testaments.
b. It influences our understanding of key biblical teachings.
c. All Scripture points to Jesus!
III. The old Testament announces the very “Good news/Gospel” we enjoy.
IIII. Jesus came not to destroy the Law and the Prophets but to fulfill them.
V. All the New Testament (NT) authors stressed that God gave the OT for Christians.
So how do we respond to this?
Try one of these activities to dive into the Goodness of the Old Testament!
